Okay at first some information:
In an American cookbook in 1842 first mentioned the term Hamburger steak for a steak of minced beef (US.: ground beef, British: to minced meat). The hamburger steak was called also "kind of hamburger steak." Was placed in the meat loaf or rolls, it is referred to as hamburger sandwich.
In the middle of the 20th Century both terms were shortened to only hamburger or burgers. While the English word "hamburger" for the places used ground meat (lean beef), or can stand on bare flesh structure without buns and other ingredients, is always of the Germans, the whole snack of meat and bread.
